~chocolate eggs and stuff~

IMG_2280

Hello peeps, had your fill of chocolate eggs? Me too!

They are yummy, aren’t they!

We had unseasonably warm weather for our Easter long weekend up in the Pacific Northwest, what a treat!

It was my turn to host Easter dinner, so here are a couple of peeks at our day and decorating, super simple and springy.

White flowers in small ironstone tureens. I had planned on white miniature roses and tulips, all sold out! These worked too.

More eggs and bunny marshmallows.

We had some Easter and coastal and spring all happening on the mantle! I think this vintage egg cup is so sweet, even if it is missing one eye.

These Easter nests were yummy, I’ll have to remember to post the recipe before next Easter! Loving the robin’s egg blue of these eggs.

Here’s a quick trivia fact for you: Cadbury chocolate eggs in the US and Canada are not the same, the US ones are bigger, the Canadian ones are prettier colors. All sampled as a courtesy to bring you this important fact of course!!

Of course the day would not be complete without an egg hunt! Do we ever outgrow egg hunts? I think not…

Look easy to find? Hmmm, actually took them a while. Sometimes the obvious spots are the best!

Certain teenage boys in the home had to line up their loot military style and engage in bunny battles. No comment.

My favorite part of the day : having the family share what Jesus means to them.

Well I’m off to raid the kids stash, hope you had a lovely Easter.

~chippy paint love~

yup, it was love at first sight

i wasn't even shopping, not really...

then i spotted this chippy old mirror

i walked away...

...and then i walked back

...and then i finally went inside

it was a wonderful chippy old window

several layers of paint

with the mirror pieces already fitted

how could i pass it up?

so home it came

and i gotta tell you

~i'm still in love~

and while we're at it, here are a few shots of my spring mantle in progress

old books tied with twine

an old canning jar with rusty zinc lid

i found these number tiles in a thrift store, have no idea what they were meant for

but i do love them in this old jar

architectural what-not

wire crowns with sparklies

two sweet little birdies chatting about my chippy mirror

a little bit of easter - vintage easter shadow box with fuzzy bunny

and a vintage mirror behind

isn't this little guy sweet, even if his eye has rubbed off!
little bunny egg cup in robin's egg blue, made in Japan

i have a little more up there than i usually do, but it's interesting right!

of course it would all look so much nicer on a white mantle

right hon??

mr keeper always gets a little worried when he sees me starting to move things around...

you'd think he'd be used to it after all these years

a little fluffing keeps a gal happy after all!

~I'm linking up with Kathleen at White Wednesday~

she's got some great chippy paint going on this week too!

~my easter chocolate woes~

anyone else having this problem?

i have to keep replenishing the easter egg hideout

the worst was when i bit the head off the bunny

seriously peeps, who does that!!

and then I ate up the rest of him too

can anyone tell me why chocolate tastes so much better in a bunny shape?

the marshmallow eggs, so yummy

good thing it's just another couple days.....

super-quick, super-thrifty cutlery holder

today I wanted to share with you something I did for our Easter gathering. I know Easter is over, but this is an idea that's super-quick, super-thrifty and you can make variations of it for any occasion.

our Easter meal this year was very casual. Firstly it wasn't a "sit-down" meal, and secondly, I was gone at my son's volleyball tournament most of the weekend!

so it was put together pretty quickly, but I still wanted it to look nice.

\
so I had my big vase of tulips, and a couple of bunnies set out

but what to do with the cutlery? I had rolled the cutlery in thick white paper napkins and secured the napkins with cute 3-D flower stickers

so I got out a tall tin can I'd been saving and covered it with a brown paisley scrapbooking paper. I used glue dots as I had them at hand, but spray adhesive would work well too

wound a long length of vintage lace around and around the can and tied it loosely

added a chocolate carrot and voila - cutlery holder!

Now, if I'd had more time I would have prettied up the top, some pom-poms would look cute.

I've used this idea before for backyard BBQs in the summer - just change the paper to suit the occasion

Told you it was super-quick and super-thrifty!
