~making french decor bottles~

Hello peeps,

I wanted to show you a really easy and effective way you can transform ordinary thrift store glass bottles into elegant french bottles. I had fun making these ones up for a vintage market.

I don’t have step-by-step photos for you, but I’ll describe how I did it.

1. Keep a look out for nicely shaped glass bottles on your thrifting adventures. I especially like bottles with a squareish shape, but you can use any really. Give them a really good wash, I run mine through the dishwasher.

2. Make friends with someone who has an awesome vinyl cutter or buy yourself an awesome vinyl cutter. As I don’t own an awesome vinyl cutter I went the friend route! Decide what you want and pick out your fonts, sizes etc. I chose eiffel towers, fleur de lis, paris…..You could also use premade vinyl stickers if you find some you like.

3. Apply the vinyls to the bottles.

4. Wind jute tightly around the bottle neck and secure with a knot. I also added some wrinkled seam binding to some of mine for a more romantic look.

And that’s it, they look great with a couple of different sizes grouped together, or a single bottle on a mantel, and they also make a fab gift!

~ever had a blond moment?~

please say you have

even if you are not blond

first i can't find those adorable skates

then i had my eye on this pillow cover at restoration hardware

the one at the very front

isn't it charming and vintage looking and well, french

then it went on sale, big time sale

but i don't BUY pillow covers, i MAKE them

so i held back

just kept looking at it online every day

then Sissie goes and posts about the very same pillow here

and that did it

if she could buy it (and she makes the most gorgeous pillows)

then i was gonna splurge and get it too

so i did

BUT somehow in the whole process of entering my life details online

i missed that i had ordered THE WRONG PILLOW!!!!!!

(the plain one at the very back)

horror of horrors

big blond moment

i emailed...

twice

no response

so i called them

they were ever so helpful and are doing their best to halt the order

but it was being packaged as we spoke (do they have to be so efficient)

anyway, the object of my affection will soon be on it's way, and it is yet to be established if the other pillow will find it's way here too, or will be stopped in time...

so alls well that ends well

if you've just gotta have one too, hop on over to RH, they have an extra 10% off right now too

(or you can wait for my spring line on etsy - coming soon!)

smiles,

Tracey
(yes, I am blond, so no offense intended to my blond blogging friends, i'm sure you never do stuff like this!)

ps. my canadian blogging friends, do you know that RH ships to Canada now, and the shipping cost is not bad...
(and no, I am not on their books!)

personalised mini journals

hi bloggers!

another of my favorite things to make are personalised journals. i like to use smallish journals with blank pages

here's the journal I made for Janis of Junkdreams, she was sweet enough to blog about it here

Janis loves everything french, so I went with a vintagey french theme and lots of bling

don't forget the back...

tucked a tag inside with a message

and whipped up a lacy burlap bag to gift it in...

remember girls, packaging is everything, who doesn't like to receive a pretty package

this one I made for my mom for a recent trip to visit her sister

I made this one super girly and pink for my sweet mom, with ribbons and lace and tulle...

vintage buttons, rhinestones, a handmade flower

and tucked in a tiny key to unlock her adventures!

kept the back simple and blingy

isn't it pretty!

what I love about journals this size, is you can take them along in your purse - jot down ideas, tuck in ticket stubs, photos, fabric or paper scraps

good idea don't you think? Though I love to write and enjoy the idea of journalling, it never happens in my reality, but so often I see a great idea or scrap of something, which can be added to a mini journal...

and it doesn't have to be perfect, just like us!

and in it's own way it tells a story of who we really are...

Lady Pamela blogged about her version of her art journal here

I'm linking up to these wonderful parties:

happy days,

Tracey
