vintage china teacup candelabra

I finally got to finish up my teacup candelabra centrepiece, just in time for White Wednesday! There was a similar project in a recent issue of Country Living, only theirs held five teacups. Must say I quite like the three.

painted the brass candelabra heirloom white (several coats) and tied on a little piece of vintage lace

glued on these elegant china teacups - I love how pleasantly rounded they are, and they are even prettier on the inside

added a few white treasures...

filled the teacups with teabags, sugar cubes and overflowing pearls. It would also be fun to fill the centre teacup with flowers or a candle.

what a pleasant way to have tea! I have a couple more on the go which I'll post later.

all that glitters...

Well I never knew White Wednesday would be quite so much fun! Thanks to all of you who visited and left comments, and thanks again to Kathleen of Faded Charm for hosting.

All that glitters...there is only one thing that makes me more giddy than a paint can, and that is a tub of glitter!!!!!

Okay, and here is a confession from a shabbyvintage chick : I LOVE PURPLE!!

I know, go figure, but I do, and when this tub of purple glitter beckoned to me across the aisle, I just couldn't resist. Of course purple doesn't really go with anything in my decor, but seeing as Easter is coming up I thought I could get away with it:-)

So I started out with a little wire basket which I painted........

white, of course (you thought I was going to say purple, now didn't you). Then I spraypainted these craft eggs silver, as well as a giant V for VINTAGE.

Then glittered them all up. It was a pretty messy affair, as glitter tends to be, I still sparkle. The purple glitter wasn't very co-operative, so had to tuck the purple eggs further into the basket.

Filled the basket with some white shreddy stuff and tucked in a cutie flocked bunny, and ta-da, my little glittery Easter vintage ensemble.

Now if I could just get rid of all the glitter in the house.........

BEWARE - VINTAGE CHICK WITH A PAINT CAN!!

What is it about a can of paint that puts a twinkle in the eye of us vintage chicks? This time it was heirloom white's turn.

I decided to transform a couple of my vintage frames. Here are the before shots.

When I lightly sanded the larger one after painting, the gold paint showed through beautifully, so decided not to stain it.

 

The middle frame I left as is, I like its worn patina.

I love the simplicity of the frames grouped together on the mantel.

Heirloom white in all its glory!

EASTER NESTS....Mmmmmm

Nothing says "Welcome home from school" better than a batch of fresh cupcakes! Especially on a Monday.

And since it's spring AND almost Easter, they became little Easter nests.

Mmmmmmmm....

VINTAGEY EASTER BASKET

I've had so much fun seeing all your Easter projects, I've been working on a couple of my own!

This is a quick little vignette I put together on the bench inside our front hallway.

I filled a sturdy wire basket with shreddies, recycled of course. Then tucked in four tiny little bunny pictures, with retro pink frames, which I picked up at a thrift store.

 

 

Of course, had to include some chocolate, so lots of tiny chocolate bunnies nestled in the basket - wonder how long they'll be there...

Finished it off by tying short pieces of white lace and ribbon around the handle.

And placed this cute retro bunny shadow box behind the basket.

Looks kinda cute don't you think:-)

VINTAGE FINDS

Today my youngest stayed home from school, so I thought to myself, hmmm, a day at home, I can work on a lot of projects. Why do I always think that! Anyway, did get the house cleaned up and a couple new things listed on etsy, that's what I have to show for today! But then what greater project is there really than taking care of my family:-)

Here are a couple of the favorites I listed today on etsy:

A gorgeous cream wedgewood bowl. Just love the two handles. Wouldn't it look great filled with flowers. I'm thinking centrepiece. Easter eggs. Flowers. Chicks. Lace.

One of my very favorite finds, these two vintage roses on metal leaf bases. They have delicate pink and white petals. So romantic and victorian looking. The mirror in the background is one of my projects-in-waiting, I'll show you soon, promise! I am so in love with that mirror, I can't tell you!

A dainty victorian style dresser jar and lid. The glaze has a faint crackle in it giving it that aged patina. No cotton ball ever found a classier home!

A heavy ironstone serving bowl, with intricate "castle" patterning on the inside. Love the great condition this ironstone is in. And yes, another project-in-waiting in the background....

Don't you just love gazing on beautiful things!

MINIATURE TREASURES

I have always been fascinated by miniature things, and remember as a girl fashioning all kinds of dollhouse furniture out of matchboxes and toothpaste caps. So when I saw an article in Somerset Life showcasing miniature collections, it inspired me to play around with miniature goodies again.

Here's my little treasure box! I glued a piece of vintage lace onto the lid.

Let's take a peek inside....

I lined the box with a shiny silver foil cupcake liner. Then added various pieces of vintage lace, elastic, silver rope, pearls and beads, old necklace embellishments and buttons including tiny shell buttons. As my color theme was white, purple and silver, some of the lace and ribbon is purple. You can just see the purple lace peeking through under the purple button.

A vintage cotton spool, vintage elastic and lace, purple ribbon, a thimble and rhinestone earring.

So much fun, why don't you try one:-)

BIRTHDAY KEEPER

This weekend my one and only brother celebrated a milestone birthday (let's leave it at that!). What to get him to go with his gift? Something that would be a keeper, something a man would appreciate and something that would reflect the giver's love of vintage. A tall order!

So when this vintage silver ice bucket and tongs caught my eye, I knew I had found it! It was pretty tarnished so I have to admit I did polish it up a bit, in honor of the special b-day. A simple black organza bow and a vintagey label, couldn't pretty it up too much!

And he loved it!!

PRETTIES TO GAZE UPON...

Well today I filled my gorgeous new glass vase with tulips, I just love it!

Prettied it up with a piece of organza ribbon...

...and a favourite rhinestone pin...sigh, how I love to look at pretty things!




What to do with the broken bud? Pop it in a pretty sugar-bowl-without-the-lid. Voila!

Now I have two pretties to gaze upon.

GIRLS DAY OUT

Today was girls day out for Rachel (my sweet 16 daughter) and I. We headed south for the day, we live in Canada 20 minutes north of the border, so Bellingham is a favourite destination. It was a wet and blustery day, but hey, we live in the northwest, that won't stop us:-)

Just love all the farmlands we drive through on the way down, we saw snow geese, canadian geese, bald eagles, seagulls, ducks, so beautiful...

...and rustic...

...and peaceful...

First stop at Joanns where I found what I was looking for, for a future project (wait and see...)

Nothing like this sight to make my heart skip a beat! Did a quick sweep as my sweet sixteen does not yet appreciate the fine art of junking. Found a couple of things...

A cute basket which I think will look gorgeous painted white and planted up for the summer, look out for it in a future post (just waiting for summer).

These lovelies were on for half-price, just adore the shape of the vase, I have to go out and buy flowers tomorrow! The other jar is nice and heavy and will likely end up in my make-shift "studio", can never have too many vessels to hold all the bitties.

Bath and Body Works to stock up on our favourite hand soap.

On to Target where we found these cute retro-looking string lights (can you tell I'm thinking summer already!) They will look great strung up outside on our back deck.

Couldn't resist these super cute napkins, don't you love the red bicycle. Come on summer!

And of course no shopping trip is complete (for me at least) without stocking up on chocolate supplies!! Love how cute these marshmallow bunnies are!

The stash, wonder if they will still be around come Easter??

Final stop at Edaleen's Dairy for the best ice-cream ever (to bring home for the boys) and milkshakes for the girls (chocolate of course!)
