mirror, mirror on the wall....

okay blogging friends, I need your advice!

I picked up this large mirror to hang in my living room, in this b-i-g space over the fireplace

...it's a seriously big space, this is a huge mirror and it's still a big space!

it wasn't really a bargain by thirft store standards, but it's what I've been looking for and was still half the price of a new mirror

...and as my birthday is coming up I just told everyone I already had my gift picked out, perfect!

but I can't decide, do I leave it gold, or paint it white??

my living room has more of a taupe palette with touches of white

When I look at it I like it gold....it's classic and classy...

then I go online and see white mirrors and I like those more!

see how the white paint shows up the detailing

ahh, the dilemma....

....I think I know which way I'm leaning

Mr Keeper is going to hang it for me this weekend, so I've got to get it all cleaned up and ready (see the sticker label and fingerprints...)

so, what do you think, leave it gold or paint it white??

happy days,
Tracey

Why don't you live with it gold for awhile...it is very classy looking. When you tire of it or just get curious, paint it. I have bought things with the intention of painting or changing them and once I get them home, I just let it be. White is very in style right now, it looks fresh and clean, but is it a trend?

I agree. I think you should paint it white. But I think the gold looks great too!

I am in love with the white look at the moment.......but I have been know to leave the item as is to see if it really is meant to be painted.............most of the time I was happy with the painted look more. GOOD LUCK XO MARY

Sometimes I paint, leaving some of the gold showing through. If you don't like that finish you can always completely cover, but since you like both, just enjoy the gold for awhile, decorate around it and then decide later when you are ready for a change... Lezlee

I think white would make the details pop out more, but I think I would live with it for a couple of weeks and see what your heart says to do!!

It is a gorgeous mirror as it is Tracey but my preference would be to paint it white! Have a great weekend! xx

Well my dear,
Either way it is lovely, and I have both in the old house. If you want it to "pop" leave it gold...
If you want it to blend in "GET OUT THE SPRAY CAN"...either way it's a keeper and was a great birthday score...well done girlfriend...smile on Rosie

I think you should paint it white as well! It'd be a nice pop with the color of your wall. It'd look great distressed some too, with the gold popping through! Have fun..it's a great mirror!

I say paint it white and then shabby it a little with the sander and allow some of the gold to come through. I think you'll love it.
It's a really nice size mirror with a great frame.

I love white but I would say leave it gold for a while - if it doesn't grow on you, then paint it white. It's a lovely mirror though ;)

Hi Tracey,
Well you know what I am going to say before I can even type it......white, white, white.....but...I think you have a great sense of taste and if you like it gold I'm sure it will look stunning in your gorgeous home!

Great mirror!! I don't think you could go wrong with either look. If you like the gold keep it and see. You could paint it white and do a glaze over it too. 2 different looks but just as pretty!
